As the Olympics open in Beijing, our hopes and prayers turn toward the strong Israeli delegation representing the country. From a religious girl Tae Kwon Do competitor who lives in a West Bank settlement to a middle-aged marathoner from Ethiopia, and everything in between, Israel’s team represents the diversity and dreams of this country.
Medal hopes are strong in a few areas. Top-ranked tennis stars such as Shahar Peer and Australian Open doubles-winners Andy Ram and Yoni Ehrlich, as well as Athens 2004 bronze medal winner (judo, men’s 100 kg) Arik Zeevi are among the country’s medal contenders.
Not only do we wish for their success, we wish for a peaceful and healthy Games for all the athletes.
