These wonderful pictures (hat-tip to Jacob Richman) and video of new American olim arriving at Ben-Gurion Airport yesterday (Tuesday, July 22) on the latest Nefesh B’Nefesh flight aren’t directly related to our work at the Shalom Hartman Institute, but they are important and emotionally uplifting in their own right, coming as they did on the same day as another bulldozer terror attack occurred within a five-minute walk of our offices in Jerusalem, and within a week of the return of our fallen captive soldiers.
The difficult work, yet incredible opportunities and possibilities facing these olim do bring to mind the latest exclusive, online commentary by Rabbi David Hartman. His belief isn’t that Israel is here to hasten the messianic redemption, but to give us an opportunity to build our own land in our own way – and to make our own mistakes.
Their arrival is as much a tonic as David’s commentary.
