Who’da thunk it? In less than two months, nearly 10,000 views have been recorded of Shalom Hartman Institute videos that have been placed off-site on video websites such as YouTube. That’s NOT counting the 2,000 3,000 viewed on the main Institute website through the Digital Lectures channel.
In first place, by far, in terms of traffic to the videos, is Yideoz – despite the silly name :), which has recorded more than 5,000 views alone. In second place is Jew Tube (get it?), with YouTube a distant third. We’ve placed videos on other sites, as well, with less success. But some of those sites (see the full list below) offer features the others don’t. The most important feature is that some of the sites have no length or time limit to the videos we want you to see.
That means we can post entire 1 or 1 1/2 hour lectures on some sites, unlike YouTube, which limits the size of the file to 100MB and the length of the video itself (anything over about 5 minutes causes YouTube to burp).
Here’s the list of where you can find Hartman Institute videos online:
- YouTube – Hartman Institute channel – The granddaddy of video websites. Short-form videos only.
- Yideoz – Our best performer. (Friends, send them email to tweak them. We can’t make a Hartman channel on Yideoz and they don’t answer my emails.)
- JewTube – Cute name (too cute?). Same as with Yideoz – the site’s Jewish audience helps us draw more traffic, but they don’t answer emails, either.
- Blip.tv – Hartman Institute channel – Has unlimited upload capabilities, so there are long-form videos (i.e., lectures) here not on other channels.
- Veoh – Hartman Institute channel – Personally, I like the look and feel of this site, but no one seems to be watching us (at least) on it. Long-form videos here, too.
- Mevio – Hartman Institute channel – From the folks who brought you Podshow, the first of the podcast websites.
Please tell us what you think of the videos, which of the sites you like (or don’t), which other video upload websites we should be using, and what more (or less) you want to see. If you have your own video responses to the Hartman videos, please upload those, too.
